Alex Graham â Former Liberal Party of Canada National Revenue Officer & Board Member - Marco Mendicino represents the finest qualities that a candidate can have. Marco is an authentic and local voice for Eglinton-Lawrence. He has worked the riding hard as a volunteer, community leader and proud life-long Liberal. I am proud to endorse Marco as the nominee in Eglinton-Lawrence. Marco is a wonderful successor to the quality representation afforded to Eglinton-Lawrence by the long and honourable service of The Hon. Joe Volpe. Eglinton-Lawrence deserves a Liberal nominee it can be proud of, and I can think of no-one more suitable than Marco.
Nicole Foster Woollatt, Former President of the National Womenâs Liberal Commission - As a long-time Liberal living in the riding, I've enjoyed getting to know Marco. I'm thrilled to endorse my neighbour to be the next Liberal candidate in Eglinton-Lawrence. I appreciate the local flavour of Marco's campaign and his knowledge of our neighbourhood and the issues we're facing here. âMost importantly, he is committed to and shares our Liberal values. It's time for a Liberal to represent us in Eglinton-Lawrence!"
Pepito Aleson Torralba, Vice-Chair, Philippine Cultural Community Centre - I enthusiastically endorse Marco Mendicino to be the next Federal Liberal candidate in Eglinton-Lawrence. Marco has shown that he is truly committed to the Filipino-Canadian community. He has met with leaders and has participated in numerous events, including the Taste of Manila, the BISAC year-end banquet, and Mutya ng Maynila, just to name a few. Marco has also attended roundtables on immigration, the caregiver program and family reunification, all of which are very important to our kababayans. In the time I have come to know Marco, I have watched him develop a genuine relationship with his fellow residents. That relationship is based not only on the fact that he and his family live in Eglinton-Lawrence, but also on hard-work, respect and trust. With his Liberal values and his professional background as a lawyer, I am confident that Marco will be a strong advocate and fight for our community. So I say, let us make Marco the next MP for Eglinton-Lawrence!
Brian Murphy, former MP Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe and former Liberal Justice Critic - In my time as Vice-Chair of the Commons Justice Committee I came to know Marco as a hard-working, honest and passionate advocate for Justice. The truth is that in those terrible years of the Harper government dismantling the core principles of Justice, people like Marco were a breath of fresh air. Representing the nearly 3000 Federal Justice prosecutors, his was a voice of balance between the vitriolic unscientific rhetoric of Toews, then Nicholson. There is no doubt that Marco is prepared for the work of Parliament. There is no doubt that he knows his public, is a decent family man and has a long history of supporting the Liberal Party. He is the preferred candidate in my mind.
Bruno Suppa, Former Chair of the Toronto Catholic District School Board, Former Citizenship Judge - I am proud to support Marco in seeking the Liberal Nomination for Eglinton-Lawrence. In addition to being a former Federal Prosecutor on important cases like the Toronto 18, and now a successful private practitioner, Marco gives selflessly to the community through his volunteer work, which supports new immigrants from many cultural backgrounds with the tools and networks they require to become positive contributing members within our society. I know Marco. He has experience, intelligence and is a strong advocate. He also has proud Italian-Canadian roots, which lies at the core of his unwavering belief that every new Canadian should have an equal opportunity to reach their full potential. He will make an excellent Member of Parliament.
John La Prairie - When I met Marco at a neighbourhood candidateâs event, I was impressed by his genuine interest in engaging with challenging issues at both the local and national level, his commitment to making a difference, and his willingness to reach out and to listen to a wide range of people. When I followed up with him later, he spent considerable time talking to me. I believe Marco would listen to and work hard for our community, and bring a thoughtful approach to the issues.
Charles S. Coffey, O.C., Former Executive VP, Government Affairs and Business Development, RBC, Chair, Aboriginal Human Resource Council Charitable Foundation - As a life-long Liberal and a proud Canadian supportive of Members of Parliament who put country ahead of partisan politics, I am absolutely delighted to add my voice of support for Marco Mendicino to be the candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence. Marco, a dedicated father of young children, has long-time roots in the riding and, as such, has a deep understanding of the economic, social and environmental issues affecting Eglinton-Lawrence. Professionally he has established himself as a lawyer with unique experience in matters of national security and the justice system. Marco has that rare combination of skill, community involvement and strong values that will make him an excellent MP. Eglinton-Lawrence residents deserve the very best to represent them in Ottawa and in my opinion they will have just that in Marco Mendicino. He has my unqualified support.
Pietro âPeterâ Cugliari, President, Provincial Liberal Riding Association for Eglinton-Lawrence - I had the pleasure of getting to know Marco when he volunteered for Mike Colleâs re-election campaign. Marco is genuine and he cares about the local community. He is prepared to do the hard work that is necessary to be a strong representative. As someone who has been involved in this community for decades, I am happy to support Marco in his run to be the next Federal Liberal candidate and MP for our riding.
Paula Clarke - âMarco Mendicino is a great friend and one of the most hardworking and trustworthy people that I know. I am so pleased that he is entering the political world and hope to see his infectious smile, brilliant intellect and sincere enthusiasm on the Hill in 2015. Canada is awash in cynicism and negativity, and Marco is truly one of the most positive and principled people I have ever metâ¦I would vote for him regardless of the party he represents. So I invite you to like his Facebook page !â
Rafael Fabregas - I firmly support Marco Mendicino to be the next Liberal candidate in Eglinton-Lawrence. He will be a strong voice for the Filipino-Canadian community in Ottawa. As the son and grandson of immigrants, Marco understands the challenges that face new Canadians. Were it not for Canadaâs immigrant reunification objective, his family would not be here today. I am convinced that Marcoâs concern for live-in caregivers is genuine and sincere, and I am confident that he will be a strong ally for much needed reform of the live-in caregiver program. Â He will also be a champion of other important issues, including ensuring job security and safe communities. Most importantly, he respects the great sacrifices that Filipino-Canadians make day in and day out to give their families a fresh start in Canada, and to continue to support their families in the Philippines. That is why I call on all the residents of Eglinton-Lawrence, especially my fellow kababayans, to support Marco in his campaign to become the next Liberal candidate for MP in that riding. Â If we truly want a better Canada, letâs help Marco. Â Letâs say no to token representation in Ottawa. Â Letâs say yes to meaningful representation. Â Letâs make Marco the next MP for Eglinton-Lawrence!
Greta Hoaken - Having worked with Marco on Mike Colleâs successful provincial campaign, I am confident that he is the right candidate to lead the Liberal Party towards victory in Eglinton-Lawrence. As an individual engaged in his community, Marco is more than just a politician, but is rather a true leader. His passion for his family, his values, and his country are unparalleled, and it has been a true pleasure to work with him towards improving our community. I know he will take the concerns of his constituents to heart, and represent them in Ottawa with the passion and tenacity that characterizes his approach to every task he takes on.
Honourable Maria Minna, P.C., Former Minister of International Cooperation, Former Member of Parliament for Beaches-East York, Former President of COSTI Immigrant Services, Former President of the National Congress of Italian-Canadians - I am pleased to endorse Marco Mendicino for the federal Liberal nomination in Eglinton-Lawrence. I have known Marco for years. He is an accomplished lawyer, having fought as a federal prosecutor against organized crime and putting terrorists behind bars. As an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, Marco mentors young lawyers and is in demand to speak at conferences both in Canada and abroad. Marco Mendicino already has some experience in Ottawa having appeared before the House of Commons and the Senate to advocate for better laws on organized crime and access to justice. Marco has proven that he cares deeply about his community by serving on numerous boards such as Wanless Child Care Centre, COSTI immigrant Services and Heart and Stroke Canada. I believe that Marco Mendicino will make an excellent Member of Parliament and I encourage you to join the Liberal Party of Canada and vote for Marco Mendicino at the upcoming nomination in the riding of Eglinton-Lawrence. Marco is going to be an MP we can all be proud of.
Howard Brown, Riding Resident, President, Brown & Cohen Communications & Public Affairs Inc. 2014 Liberal Volunteer of the Year Award for Eglinton-Lawrence - I met Marco Mendicino at the delegate selection meeting for our riding two years ago. I encouraged him right away to seek the nomination. He is just the type of person we need for this riding if we are going to return the riding to the Liberal fold. He's bright, hard working, a good listener and there for the right reasons. Fighting for a Canada that his young daughters will appreciate in later years. He has experience heading the organization representing 3000 lawyers and crown prosecutors working for the federal government. A lawyer, a volunteer, a neighbour and a dad. What a combination. And he lives in the riding to boot. Look out Joe Oliver!
Lisa Blais, Past President of the Association of Justice Counsel - I had the privilege of meeting Marco for the first time in 2009. The circumstances were not ideal. Our Association of Justice Counsel (the federal bargaining agent that represents 2700 federal lawyers), was at a crossroads and needed leadership. Without hesitation, Marco stepped into the role of President, dedicating the next three years to the fledgling group. Without Marcoâs consensus-building abilities, not to mention his intelligence and enthusiasm for causes he believes in, I am convinced that our Association would not be the stable, mature and successful organization that I inherited as President in 2012. Marcoâs dedication to his members was only matched by his belief in what is right. Marco knows how to represent people. Eglinton-Lawrence would be well served in Ottawa with Marco Mendicino as its Member of Parliament.
Michael Coulson, riding resident - I've known Marco for nearly 10 years now and I can't think of a person I would want more as my representative in Ottawa. He has an amazing grasp of a wide range of issues, and most importantly, has solid ideas on how to fix local and national problems. Better yet, I've worked with him on our children's School Council, and he's a neighbour: I know first-hand that he's a guy you can trust.
