4 Reasons to Redecorate Your Kitchen with Wood

0

Are you looking at your options for remodeling your kitchen? Do you need new countertops, cupboards, or fixtures? Maybe you need new appliances, or you’re just looking for ways to lightly update your kitchen’s look?

If you’re going to remodel or redecorate your kitchen, here’s why you should consider integrating wood into your new design.

1. Wood makes a kitchen warmer

When your goal is to make your kitchen a more inviting space to gather, nothing will make it warmer than wood. It doesn’t matter if you add wood accents, décor, furniture, or you install wood plank countertops – any addition of wood will create warmth.

If you’re not doing a big remodel, choose select elements to replace with wood. A small change you can make would be to get new wood trim for your kitchen window. Go for something thick with a dark stain that also shows the grain of the wood.

If you’re doing a light remodel, swap out your countertops with wood. If you’re going all out, you may want to consider transforming your doorways or archways with wood. Or, you could redo your walls with textured wood.

For a simple redecorating job, look for pieces you can put on the counter, wall, or floor made of wood. Items like wooden crates, or picture frames made of wood. All of these ideas will contribute to a warmer, cozier kitchen.

2. Wood is durable

When remodeling your kitchen, it’s wise to use materials that are durable and built to last. Wood is one such material. In fact, wood can last for a lot longer than other materials when properly maintained. The key is to make sure you stay on top of the required maintenance where necessary.

Unlike some materials, wood can handle more weight, more pressure, and can withstand heavy kitchen prep work. For instance, some wooden countertops are designed to withstand all the chopping you could possibly do for decades.

Wooden furniture is also long-lasting. For instance, if you decide to get a new solid wooden kitchen table, you’ll know it’s going to last for a long time, provided you get one made of real wood.

It’s a good idea to avoid mail-order tables simply because when you have to assemble wood furniture yourself, it’s usually low quality compared to what you’d get from a furniture store. Although, if you have the budget, it’s nice to have wooden furniture made to order.

Over the years, you’ll need to refinish or repaint certain types of wood surfaces, but that’s just part of owning wood. The aesthetics are worth the extra work to keep your wood looking sharp.

3. Wood is aesthetically pleasing

Many people prefer the look of wood over stainless steel, granite, marble, and other shiny surfaces. Wood makes a kitchen look more like a home rather than a showroom. There’s just something aesthetically pleasing about walking into a kitchen with wooden cabinets and cupboards, a big wooden dining table, and even a wood floor.

Some people go all out when decorating and get wood décor in the rustic farmhouse or shabby chic styles. Others repaint their cabinets and other existing wood surfaces to make them look old and weathered. Even expert decorators are turning to wood as a main redecorating staple.

Wood just looks good. When you redecorate or remodel with wood, people will feel cozier in your kitchen and they’ll enjoy staying longer for dinner parties.

4. Wood is worth the expense

Not everything made from wood is automatically more expensive, although it can be, and it’s always worth the expense. You really do get what you pay for, and it’s worth paying for high-quality materials if you’re going to remodel your kitchen.

The look and feel of wood cabinets, countertops, archways, and décor is unbeatable. Other materials just don’t look the same. However, if you’re looking for ways to cut costs, try to find second-hand wooden fixtures. You can also use reclaimed wood to make your own fixtures if you’re handy with wood.

As an alternative, you might have a woodworker in your local neighborhood who can make you some custom fixtures and décor for a cheaper price than what you’d pay in the stores.

Going for a remodel? Choose wood

No matter how involved your kitchen remodel, consider integrating wood into your project. Your kitchen will look amazing, and you’ll have a cozy eating space your family and friends will enjoy.
