Five tips for a Caribbean-themed renovation

0

Vacations are unquestionably brilliant, a time to let your hair down, relax, and explore some of the most beautiful parts of the world. Whether you are laying on a tropical beach, strolling around art galleries in a European capital city, or exploring a vast, rugged wilderness, there’s nothing quite like traveling abroad.

But while exotic adventures and amazing experiences overseas are undeniably exciting, sometimes the best part of a truly great vacation is the memories you take home with you. Remembering your trip fondly and taking inspiration from its most significant moments allows you to keep the magic of a vacation going long after you are back home safe and sound.

And one way to really take advantage of these memories is to draw inspiration from your vacations for things that are part of your everyday life. Many people love to recreate the food they tasted on vacation, or bring back souvenirs or clothes to remind them of the great times they had. But if you want to go further and really bring your vacation home with you, then renovating your interiors and going for an interior decor style themed around your favorite trip is the way to go.

Tropical themes are a wonderful way to go when it comes to home design, so if you are just back from the Caribbean on the best cruise deal of your life and don’t want the fun to stop, here are five tips to help you summon up a little Caribbean flavor and tropical style at home.

Color

Authentic Caribbean style is all about bright, bold colors. It’s about bringing the sunny day inside, and conjuring up the feeling of spending a day in paradise. So go with bold colors for soft furnishings, and bright accents. Your walls can be a little more restrained, with softer, peach and mint pastel hues, but color is still the main feature.

Nature

Even if you live in the middle of the city, with the right interior decor you can create all the tropical, beach, and jungle vibes you want. Decorate your home with plenty of greenery, from pot plants and succulents to freshly cut flowers. You can also incorporate natural themes into your decorative style, with palms or other plants making great wallpaper or wall art designs.

Furniture

The influence of the natural world extends to your furniture when it comes to Caribbean-themed design. Avoid artificial materials and go for rich, sumptuous wood tables and rattan or wicker chairs. Woven or wicker baskets work perfectly, and are a great option for a little extra storage around the house. Finally, don’t be afraid to add a hammock or a hammock chair, or gorgeous, unique Acapulco chairs for your exterior spaces!

Textiles

Texture is all-important in Caribbean-themed design, and textiles are one of the best ways to add textures to any space. Try natural cotton throws and wall hangings, linen curtains, and macrame headboards or decorative accents. Sheer fabric hung loosely around your bed is another way to create that gorgeous, beach-side feeling.

Antiques

All traditional Caribbean homes will include at least one piece of antique furniture, and many of the most beautifully-designed spaces will be full of gorgeous mahogany and eye-catching parota that have stood the test of time. So make sure you bring something a little older into your space to add a touch of amazing contrast. You can even take something a little tired and faded and upcycle it – you’d be amazed at how much of a difference a touch of reupholstery or a lick of paint can make!
